Field of Jars

Well, we left Vang Viang and took a minibus about 7 hours to Phonsavan. It was a pretty rough ride to be honest. Not much sleep from the night before with the idea that we would sleep on the bus. Had a fun night though. I was up until five and him out with a group that represented almost every continent. The pow wow was eventually broken up by an angry Lao lady boy. But it was a lot of fun meeting people from so many different countries. Sleep was going to be scarce. Little did we know that the bus goes up and through winding mountain passes so we would find no comfort on the bus. It really was beautiful though. These villages are built in the peaks of the mountain with terraced rice fields throughout. We make it to town in the the afternoon and walked around town to try to get an idea of what there was to offer. The town isnt really a tourist town. There's a field of jars and that's about it as far as draws to the area. We walked through the local markets and grabbed some food.

Remnants

Today we rented a motorbike and headed out to the jars. The jars are these huge stone jars out in a field. The origins and reasons for them are unknown. They are thought to be 2-3 thousand years old. Throughout the area there are these huge craters where bombs had gone off. After that we went out and cruised around on the bike. It's really cool to just drive through the rice fields and through the hills in the countryside. We went to the old capital that was bombed heavily during the indo china war. They had a group who still goes out and sweeps the country side for bombs that haven't exploded.
