Well we put the Norwegians on a bus to the airport to head back to Cape Town and we are back at it. We are headed towards the beach even though the weather really isn't great. We are getting rained on right now. We are headed to check out the casino and grab some groceries.
The casino is nice enough. In a little mall area. Nothing real exciting. Doesn't have all the flair they have in Vegas for sure.
We walked around the stadium today. It was cool to see what they are doing with the area. They have a gym and offer tours. They also have a wall the turned into a blackboard of Things I want to do before I die. It was cool.
Durban has a bus system called people mover which runs every ten minutes. They really make it pretty easy to get around. For $.55 a ride the price is good as well. For further rides you can catch mini buses but their routes are a little harder to follow.
I haven't talked much about the food. In Durban it's heavily influenced by Indian cuisine. Lots of curries and shawarma. The dish they are popular for here is called bunny chow. It's a curry in a hallowed out load of bread. The foods good. I eat a lot of samosas which are like big triangle pizza pockets with curry in it. They are cheap and somewhat filling. Food was a big deal the last couple of weeks as or Norwegian friends couldn't get enough of it. It was funny. They could out eat us pretty easily. We eat a ton of junk food. Chips these cookie biscuits some breads with cheese are about the extent of what we eat it seems like. We eat a lot of yoghurt as well. Which somehow they manage to spell with an h. Probably more the queens English more than anything else here. I think the better meals we have had have been in line with other types of food and not distinctly South African. Like the food at the vineyard was more French style and we've had lots Indian food.
Brandt with his tub-o-yogurt. Mine is on the table.
It seems like things are falling into place for this site visit and I am really excited about it. I love the idea of seeing the way people really live. We have seen some village life I don't feel like I have had a chance to really experience it all.
We were out on the boardwalk today enjoying a sunny day on the beach and ran into Victor a friend from Rio de Janeiro in brazil. So we hung out on the beach for a while. We went back to the hostel to enjoy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some yoghurt. It's been a pretty perfect day so far. We are working on plans for tonight. Durban is a really nice area.
While we were at the beach we decided to try as do some flips off this little sand cliff. It was pretty fun. I always like that type of fun. Tonight we might go out and try to catch some live music near the morningside area of town. I could go for a low key night. I am fighting off a bit of a cold so it would be nice to take it easy.
