Old building with new friends

Plans don't always work out the way you want but sometimes it's for the better. We met with some other guys at the hostel we are staying at and spent the day traveling around. First stop was the castle of good hope.

The oldest colonial structure in South Africa. I don't remember the exact details but I believe it was built in the 1700s. It wasn't the most impressive building ever but had some really cool things about it. The first thing was that it is right in the city center right next to the train station. They had these doors on the prison doors that had these really ornate carvings.

Clock tower at waterfront

Cape Town stadium. We are hopefully catching a game here on Wednesday.

The other impressive thing was they showed that the ocean used to come right up to the castle and at the time would spill into the Castle walls through the entrance. They have since moved the coastline back through Dutch engineering.
After that we were planning on going out to Robbens island but tickets were sold out. This is the island that Nelson Madela spent a big portion is his prison sentence. So now we are going to do that tomorrow.

We decided to go back to Clifton beach. We weren't planning on It so we didn't have suits but we still decided to swim. The water is freezing but it really was fun and worth doing. It was cool to spend some time getting to new our new friends Toto from Germany and Santiago from Spain.

Toto who is best described as a German Thayne brought up an interesting concept. He called it FOMO. Fear of missing out. Anyway he used it for a reasoning in not going back home and getting a job and rather staying out and traveling. A sentiment I can partly understand. He is going on 16 months since being home. Santiago is out here under the guise of improving his English. It's funny he has a girlfriend back home but said she never would have let him go except he used the self improvement card to get out here. Both really cool guys and it souls like we will be spending the next couple days hanging out with them.

We also got to see the 12 apostles which are peaks along the table mountain range.
